T
he 1st DumDum International Film Festivalwas inaugurated by Boman Irani and Koel Mallick, in the presence of Hon'ble Minister for Higher Education, Sri Bratya Basu and other dignitaries from Government of West Bengal.
Bratya Basu one hears has backed this festival right from the inception of the idea to the inaugural lamp being lit. Basu, has been a staunch patron of Cinema and Theater, besides being an actor himself.
Boman Irani seemed very happy to have been a part of the Inauguration Ceremony and rooted for a stronger presence of Regional Cinema so as to strengthen the realms of Indian Cinema. Koel Mallick also thanked the organizers for such a noble initiative and emphasized on the fact that more exposure to World Cinema will help the film buffs and makers alike to broaden their horizons and even debate heartily while echoing their love for Cinema.
The festival will span across seven days and will screen 9 films from across the World. The Festival committee has also organized for a Panel Discussion on the penultimate day (7th December 2013) on the topic: "100 Years of Indian Cinema - The Way Ahead."
The International Films that will be screened are: 'Spring Summer Fall Winter' by Kim Ki Duk (Korea), '21 Grams' by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (USA), 'Katyn' by Andrzej Wajda (Poland), '2046' by Wong Kar Wai (Hongkong), 'Soul Kitchen' by Faith Akin (Germany), 'Outrage' by Takeshi Kitano (Japan), 'Django Unchained' by Quentin Tarantino (USA).
Only two Indian films will be screened at the Festival, one is 'Celluloid' by Kamaluddin Mohammed Majeed and the other is the inaugural film - "Mahapurush O Kapurush" by Aniket Chattopadhyay.
Our Little Birdie is curious about the fact that 'Mahapurush O Kapurush' is the only Bengali film of the festival, which is also the Inaugural film and is the one Bratya Basu made a comeback to the big screen earlier this year!
We wish the festival, debuting this year, all the success!!
