ahmanishq - the word is an interesting combination of one's name i.e. 'Rahman' and the urdu word for 'love' viz. 'Ishq'. On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, Kolkata showered all it's love for one of the Nation's most favourite people - A. R. Rahman!
It was indeed all ishq for Rahman and his music, as the city swooned to his tunes in the Yuva Bharati Stadium, which was, needless to say, absolutely packed to the rafters! Rahman belted some soulful songs, besides his popular chartbusters and together with the likes of Neeti Mohan, Javed Ali, Sukhwinder Singh, Shweta Pandit, Harshdeep Kaur among others, it was a treat for the ears.
A fantastic start to the tour of cities, Kolkata played the perfect host to the Mozart of Madras and his team. Such was the kind of ovation Rahman commanded, that the humble and shy Oscar winner, had to say it out loud – “I love you Kolkata”.
Our Little Birdie truly had a great time!
