ust when Kolkata was recovering from the news of the demise of ace filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh, Fate had one more jilt to offer.
The renowned singer - Manna Dey, breathed his last today morning, at a Hospital in Bangalore. Dey was hospitalised for over four months on complaints of chest infection and renal failure. 

Hospital sources said that the singer was not handling the treatment in the past day or so and today around 3.50am he died of a cardiac arrest. His daughter Suroma was at the hospital during this time, with whom he had been residing in Bangalore for the past few years; while his other daughter resides in USA.
Family sources told our Little Birdie that the other relatives had already started arriving at Bangalore for his last rites and that his body will kept at Ravindra Kalakshetra in the city till late afternoon for the public to pay their last respects and homage. Manna Dey will then be cremated in Hebbal cemetery in the evening.
Born Prabodh Chandra Dey and fondly called as Manna Da, he had an illustrious career of playback singing in the Hindi Film Industry, having worked with the likes of S.D. Burman, Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, R,D. Burman, Asha Bhonsle among others. He was a star in the Bengali singing scene as well, having worked brilliantly alongside the likes of Salil Chaudhury, Hemanta Mukherjee and others.
The legendary artist had recorded over 3500 songs in a career ranging almost over seven decades!
We all will miss him dearly, but his legacy - his music will live on forever!
